Leopard

[Leopard in Samburu] What can you say about Leopards except that they are way cool? They look cool, they take about as much notice of the dozens of minibuses that surround them as I take of Speed Limit signs. They just drape themselves in a tree and look out over the plains like they rule the place.

Leopards are obviously very supple and lie there like they have no bones in their bodies. Leopards spend a fair amount of time in trees and even deposit the carcasses of their kills in trees so that other predators and scavengers can't take them.

[Leopard in Samburu] While leopards don't have 'cheetah' speed, they are capable of cruising at better than 35 miles per hour. They eat a wide assortment of antelope and the young of other species. They tend to be very solitary and, unlike lions, hunt alone. We saw a pair of leopards at Samburu in trees about 50 yards apart which tends to be rare outside of when they are mating.

Leopard spots come in a number of varieties but often look somewhat like little paw prints. Leopards come in various colors throughout the world. Being part of the 'predator' and 'big cat' families they draw a lot of attention. Whenever a leopard is spotted, as it were, the minibuses come a drivin' at high speed to catch a glimpse.
