July 8-12, 2002 - Rome

Ah, my final week in Italy. Originally I was set to fly back from Geneva on July 19. Of course, that is when I though we had finals the week of July 15-18. When I found out that I only had a final on July 12, in the morning, I tried to change my flights. Of course this is impossible to do in Italy. I went to the STA Travel office near Termini station but was told that despite having purchased the ticket through STA, it was not an STA ticket. Or, perhaps I was just in Italy, the land of people who do not help you.

I eventually got my Mom to change my reservation for me directly through British Airways. Why didn't I just do that myself? Because you can't call British Airways from Italy. Duh. Well, with that behind me, my last hurdle was sending some of my stuff back home via FedEx. This was necessary as I had no intention of lugging it all onto trains across Europe and FedEx is the only reliable way to send anything out of Italy. I setup a pickup and the FedEx man came the day before I was to leave. Ah the sweet smell of competence. With my one final behind me I caught a train to Geneva and freedom.
